Student Services Directorate

The Student Services Directorate is part of the Student Affairs Division, which also comprises the Health Service and UQ Advantage Office.  The Student Services Directorate is a unit with a strong focus of providing a broad range of student services including enhancing the student experience and assisting the institution in improving student retention. It comprises of the following sub-units: the Learning Hub, Student Counselling, First-Year Engagement, Accommodation Services, Multi-faith Chaplaincy and is expected to work closely with other Directorates in the Student Affairs Division.  Services are delivered across the St. Lucia, Gatton and Herston campuses.

The role

The Assistant Living and Life Skills Officer will work closely with team members to provide a multi-functional service to prospective and enrolled students within UQ.  The role of this position is to provide advice to students on available accommodation options, support and advice on how to navigate issues that arise through share housing, tenancy matters and building life skills generally whilst studying successfully.  Maintaining database and communication systems and providing essential administrative support as well as being involved in the planning, designing and creation of various support resource offers lots of variety.

The person

Applicants should possess 2 years equivalent, or combination of, relevant experience and training in a related field. A demonstrated ability to establish effective relationships quickly and  ease with a range of clients is essential for this role.  Knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, the accommodation sector and Queensland tenancy law is required.  Attention to detail and a high level of computer literacy skills as well as a commitment to best practice procedures are critical along with an ability to prioritise work. Good communication skills are also necessary.


This is a fixed term appointment at HEW Level 4 until 23 May 2018.  The remuneration package will be in the range $59,429.60 to $63,305.88p.a, plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $69,532.63 to $74,067.88 p.a.).
