Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation 

Exciting new role in developing strategies to improve feed intake in pigs and poultry by means of identifying nutritional compounds and their chemosensing mechanisms that modulate appetite in these species.

The Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) is a unique research institute in Australia – a jointly funded initiative of UQ and Agri-Science Queensland and Biosecurity Queensland, part of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF). QAAFI conducts research and development to benefit the food and fibre sector both nationally and internationally.

The Institute's strengths are reflected in its three research centres – the Centre for Plant Science, the Centre for Animal Scienceand the Centre for Nutrition and Food Sciences.  QAAFI brings together scientists from UQ and DAF to conduct high-end science that delivers higher impact outcomes for industry and the community.

QAAFI offers postgraduate programs in the disciplines of Plant, Animal and Food sciences internally and externally and provides professional training to both Australian and international students.

The role

The successful appointee will be responsible for assisting with, but not limited to; project/research proposals, animal ethics applications, annual/final reports to funding bodies, experimental protocols, team management regarding animal trials, on site (hands on) animal agistment and animal  performance and health measurements, data collection and statistical analysis, as well as providing continuous feedback to the team leader and students over the life of the project.You will also be required to work across multiple locations (UQ and other).  

The person

Applicants should possess a Bachelors Degree in Animal Nutrition, or Science. A PhD is desirable, but not essential.  You should have a proven track record in pig and poulty nutrition, as well as experience collaborating with the farm animal industry. You will also have knowledge in animal pathology/immunology and have a current drivers licence.

Remuneration

This is a part-time (60%), fixed term appointment at HEW Level 6. The remuneration package will be in the range $74,207.07 - $79,964.50 p.a. full time equivalent, plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $86,822.27 – 93,558.46 p.a. full time equivalent).
