The School of Biological Sciences

The University of Queensland has a wonderful research environment, attracting top grades in the national assessment of research quality in all biological disciplines and economics.  The School of Biological Sciences is one of the largest Schools of this type in Australia with 50 full-time academic staff.  The School provides unique opportunities for study or research in plant and animal biology with research programs spanning ecology, molecular plant sciences, marine biology, entomology, and genetics & evolution.

The role

To work with a large working group of 20 leading researchers from UQ, JCU, AIMS, CSIRO and UNEP. The team are evaluating reef ecosystem function and making recommendations on the most important species driving healthy ecosystems, their level of threat, and what can be done to mitigate such threats. The team will be considering all major taxa including corals, fish, sponges, algae and microbes. This is a rare opportunity to work with a diversity of scientists and gain exposure to multiple perspectives. The specific role will involve data collation, synthesis, analysis and the writing of manuscripts and reports.

The position starts 1st February 2018 or as soon as is practicable thereafter.

The person

Applicants will ideally have a PhD in coral reef science with relevance to ecosystem functioning. They will need to have a competitive publication history for their stage of career and a familiarity or experience with conservation criteria would be an advantage.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term (18 month) appointment at Academic level A. The remuneration package will be in the range $81,545.80- $87,535.13p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $95,408.59 - $ 102,416.10p.a.).
