Postdoctoral Research Opportunity in High Temperature Metal Smelting and Recycling

The Pyrometallurgy Innovation Centre at The University of Queensland has an international reputation for the high quality of research output. We are seeking an enthusiastic researcher interested in cutting edge research in the field of high temperature process metallurgy applied to primary metal smelting, recycling and advanced materials manufacturing. The research involves experimental studies integrated with thermodynamic modelling undertaken in close collaboration with leading  international companies.

UQ is a research intensive University ranked within the top 50 universities in the world. The Pyrometallurgy Innovation Centre undertakes fundamental and applied research, funded through competitive Government grants and by industry partners world-wide. There are excellent opportunities to establish Australian and international industry and academic contacts and careers in high temperature metal processing and recycling.

The role

The appointee will, in collaboration with active research team, undertake high temperature experimental fundamental and applied research of complex multi-component multi-phase metallurgical systems integrated with thermodynamic modelling using FactSage.

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in Metallurgical Engineering or related field of Science or Engineering (including but not limited to Materials, Geology, Ceramics, Physics, Inorganic Chemistry), demonstrate a high level working knowledge of and expertise in chemical thermodynamics and high temperature phase equilibria. Desirable are high level skills in high temperature experiments in multi-component multi-phase systems, electron probe X-Ray microanalysis (EPMA), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive Analysis (EDX), thermodynamic modelling.

This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed-term for One (1) year with high probability of extension depending on funding and performance. The remuneration package will be Research Fellow level A or B in the range of $64,533 - $109,419 p.a. depending on experience and qualifications, plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range of $75,504 - $128,020 p.a.).
