Pyrometallurgy Innovation Research Centre 

The Pyrometallurgy Innovation Centre at The University of Queensland has an international reputation for the high quality of research output and successfully operates for several decades supported by government and major international industrial companies worldwide in the areas of non-ferrous and ferrous metal smelting, recycling and advanced materials manufacturing (see details on https://pyrosearch.chemeng.uq.edu.au/)

The role

The purpose of the current position is to assist with laboratory tasks on a dynamic research project for  the Pyrometallurgy Innovation Centre. 

Duties and responsibilities include provision of high quality and reliable technical support to the busy research team including, but not limited to

  • Benchtop laboratory work, conducting controlled laboratory experiments, chemical mixture and sample preperaation
  • Basic operation and maintenance of research laboratory equipment
  • Resarch and technical data processing and calculations
  • Inventory and consumable maintenance

The person

The position is ideally suited to a technically / chemically oriented person with good laboratory bench skills, a high level of attention to detail and desire to learn.  Proven knowledge in benchtop laboratory skills in the space of metallurgy, chemistry, applied chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, materials engineering, geology, minerals, resource or related disciplines; to work independently and meet deadlines in a busy environment, to posess good organisational and time management skills; to have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work harmoniously in a multicultural team environment.  Sound practical experience or a qualification in metallurgy, chemistry, materials or laboratory related fields and previous lab experience are highly desired.  Candidates with and without formal qualifications at diploma and tertiary levels will be considered.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for one (1) year with high probability of extension depending on funding and performance. The remuneration package will be at HEW Level 4 ($59,429.60 - $63,305.88 p.a.) or 5 ($64,597.80 - $72,348.94) depending on experience and qualifications, and will also have employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $69,532 - $84,648 p.a.).
