Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Science unites the disciplines of agriculture and animals, biological sciences, chemistry, earth sciences, food sciences, geography, marine science, mathematics and physics, planning, the environment and veterinary science.

With strong links between the enabling and applied sciences, UQ researchers and graduates are working on a wide range of ground breaking projects from the molecular characterisation of drug resistant bacteria that affect piglets through to finding better treatments for illness and rehabilitation of the environment.

The units within the Faculty of Science are internationally recognised and their teaching and research successes create a stimulating environment within which the Faculty staff work.

The Role

The primary purpose of this position is to develop and deliver science outreach workshops to prospective students and high school teachers as part of their Continuing Professional Development. This will involve developing a strong understanding of the Faculty and its staff and outreach activities, delivering workshops, preparing content for media releases and other communications and representing the Faculty at engagement events as needed.

The Person

Applicants should possess a bachelor degree in a relevant field of marketing or science, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or training/education. You should also have experience in developing science curriculum content for student and teachers workshops and an understanding of student recruitment and marketing. Experience in developing and writing communications is required, as are strong organisational and planning skills. Applicants should also demonstrate their experience in a variety of programs including Microsoft suite programs, and either experience or the ability to rapidly develop skills in Vision6, InDesign and Drupal.


This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 18 months broadbanded at HEW Level 5/6. The HEW 5 remuneration package will be in the range $64,597 - 72,348 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of 17% (total package will be in the range $75,579 - $84,648 p.a.). the HEW 6 remuneration package will be in the range $74,207.07 - $79,964.50 FTE p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $86,822.27 - $93,558.48 FTE p.a.).
