The School of Languages and Cultures has grown rapidly in recent years and now has over 1000 EFTSL (8,000 course enrolments). It is one of the largest Schools of language instruction in Australia with over 40 academic staff. The Linguistics Program aims to develop theoretical knowledge and analytic skills in two inter-related strands of the Linguistics discipline that feature key research strengths in the School: the structure of language (e.g. through the study of speech sounds, word and sentence structural patterns), and the use of language (e.g. through the study of language variability, language as action, and discourse analysis).
